Renfort Lamps

Clark & Dianne Renfort

The Renfort Lamps are both functional and sculptural works of art. Artist, Clark Renfort began designing them in 1980. Constructed from hardwood and glass, they begin as a rough piece of wood which is laminated to form the base, it is then turned on a lathe where the beginning of the design takes form. The steam-bent hardwood tendrils accentuate the curved lines giving each lamp its own sculptural look. The Shades begin as flat glass circles which are slumped in the kiln. Their textured surface is created in the kiln being fired at a high temperature. While they are still hot they are worked out by hand and once cool each shade is sandblasted to give it a frosted look.
