Using polymer clay, artist Loretta Lam uses a glass making process called, millefiori, making sheets, and snakes of different colors that are stacked, wrapped and combined to make logs or loaves of pattern, from which slices are taken and applied to a base bead. Carefully chosen accents, cords and embellishments are used to complete the work. Lam uses the natural palette, and in the end achieves a sophisticated simplicity with a dash of playfulness. Her work has a kindness about it that must be seen to be believed. Truly wearable art.
