Christine Buchanan

A Pacific Northwest native and honors graduate of Pacific Lutheran University, Christine Buchanan was influenced by local artists and Lute Faculty such as metal sculptor Tom Torrens and glass artist Mark Gulsrud. Since 1993, Christine has been teaching Glass, Ceramics, Sculpture, Drawing and Painting at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor, Washington. As a strong supporter of her community, Christine donates selected pieces to local charities.

Christine's Spirit Masks are hand built in her studio. The artist uses her expertise of textures and subtleties to recreate exact copies of wildlife from the forest and beach just outside her studio door. Every shell, claw and tentacle is sculpted by hand and unique to each piece. The placement and flow of each addition accentuates the natural form. Once dried and individually fired, the piece is glazed and given a second firing.
